O Revitalift, a complete and comprehensive microneedle bipolar radiofrequency platform, joins the Visalift, microfocused ultrasound—a service the company already offers—expanding the range of solutions for treating the signs of aging.
Comparing the Equipment
O Visalift It is a complete and comprehensive micro-focused ultrasound device. It has three pen-shaped tips for use on the face and, in addition, two others designed for use on the body. It works by creating micro-coagulation points beneath the skin’s surface, at depths ranging from 1.5 mm to 4.5 mm (for the face) and from 8 mm to 13 mm (for body treatments). It works by stimulating collagen synthesis and reorganizing existing collagen (when applied at shallower or intermediate depths) or by causing a contraction in the SMAS—the tissue between the subcutaneous fat and the muscles (when the energy is directed deeper).
“The Revitalift, ”, which, in turn, uses needles to micro-perforate the skin while simultaneously stimulating it with radiofrequency, which causes controlled thermal damage,”, explains biomedical scientist Isabel Garcia, a speaker and scientific consultant at Pharmaesthetics.
The needles themselves, which are coated with 24-karat gold, act as energy conductors. The cartridges have 10, 25, or 36 needles arranged in rows, meaning they can cover smaller or larger areas, depending on the number of needles. In addition, you can choose between insulated and non-insulated types. The difference? When the cartridge is insulated, the radiofrequency is concentrated at the tip of the needle.
If it is the non-insulated type, this means that the energy travels through the entire needle—that is, it stimulates the skin from the epidermis to the dermis.
The depth reached by the needle—and, consequently, by the radiofrequency—is determined by the settings adjusted before treatment, ranging from 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm. It is this choice, as well as the selection of the cartridge type—insulated or non-insulated—that will determine how the technology works. “When, for example, a non-insulated cartridge is used at a shallower depth, it causes a more superficial thermal lesion,” explains Isabel Garcia. “Choosing an insulated cartridge combined with a greater depth directs the radiofrequency action solely to the dermis, without causing any type of ablation,” adds the biomedical scientist. In summary, there are a variety of protocol options.
It’s worth noting that the Revitalift platform also features a cryoanesthesia tip, which desensitizes the treatment area and makes the procedure more comfortable. Another unique feature that helps minimize discomfort is the suction created by the radiofrequency tip itself—it stabilizes the skin, tightening it and facilitating application.
When should each of these technologies be used?
The details listed in the previous section already highlight the versatility of both technologies, a fact that is further demonstrated by the combination of options—tips, cartridges, and needle types—available to healthcare professionals. However, each type of equipment has its own specific characteristics in terms of the benefits it provides.
Microfocused ultrasound is extremely effective at promoting firmness and collagen synthesis and redefining facial contours. Depending on how it is used, it can also target fat and help slim down rounder, heavier faces. On the body, it improves firmness, helps combat localized fat, and aids in body contouring. The device has the advantage of being painless, causing, at most, slight discomfort.
Bipolar radiofrequency both stimulates the synthesis and reorganization of collagen and elastin and enables a controlled resurfacing process with accelerated recovery (the lesions it causes occur in a fractional pattern, which produces this result). When adjusted to promote resurfacing, it improves the texture and appearance of pores, minimizes red and brown spots, helps reduce fine and moderate lines, and softens acne scars and stretch marks.
When determining treatment strategies, the best approach in most cases is to combine the two technologies.
This results in a more comprehensive effect, especially when the goal is to treat the signs of aging. Keep in mind that the treatment plan should always be tailored to each patient’s needs and that minimum intervals between sessions must be observed.
“They can range from 30 to 90 days, depending on the extent and depth of application,”, Isabel Garcia explains.
